Keep an eye out for the Freshman Reading Round Up book list

Class of 2013 - In the next month or so, the books for 2009 Freshman Reading Round Up will be posted. These are one-time book discussion groups held the day before classes start. Small groups - about 20 students and one professor I think.

You'll be notified but it may not be obvious that you need to act fairly quickly. If you think you might want to do Freshman Reading Round Up, watch for the book list to appear and sign up for the book you want as soon as you see the lists posted. The groups will start to fill up fairly soon, and many will be full by your summer orientation session. (Pick a book you have read and enjoyed or choose something to read over the summer.)

A relatively entertaining way to meet a few more people before school starts.

thanks for the heads up :D

Sounds fun … thanks for posting.

You can sign up now if you are interested.

(If any of you read and understand A Confederacy of Dunces, please explain it to me, because I have to say, I just didn’t get it…)

Thanks. I got an email long time ago, and I totally forgot about it.

It’s an autobiography, Midwest Mom. It’s funny because the situations are so ridiculous that they can’t possibly be true, except Toole was a nutcase and a lot of them really did happen. But the ending is also funny because it’s so farcical. It’s basically just one giant farce. I’ve also heard he was trying to write a modern day Don Quixote, but from what I’ve read it was just him being largely autobiographical.

I signed up for Don Quijote. If you do too, then see you there.

Thanks theloneranger - I guess I should have stuck with it to the last chapter and at least enjoyed the ending.

what are the benefits of joining this??

i don’t know if i should do this…

It is not a big deal, but it gives you a somewhat fun thing to do for a few hours the day before school starts. It might be that by then you have been on campus for a few days with particular scheduled activities and it might be fun to have something (that is not a class) to go to.

Everyone there is a freshman, so it’s another chance to meet people. The professors who sign up to lead these things are fun, so it is entertaining. And if you don’t have time to read, check the list - there is probably something on there that you already read in high school.

I see there are openings for The Tempest with Paul Sullivan.
