Reading Group

So, I got an email today for this freshman reading group thing. You supposedly pick a book from this list and then discuss said book on the first day of classes. Does anyone actually do this? I checked out the book list, and it tells me that no one has signed up yet (probably just something wrong with my browser).

I received that exact email. I also noticed no one had signed up for any sessions. My guess was people hadn't gotten around to it yet. Anyways, I think it will be a good way to meet people, so I signed up for the Audacity of Hope session.

Hook 'Em!

Xavier

I did this my freshman year with professor Robert Solomon (who died earlier this year). We read The Stranger and he discussed existentialism for an hour or two while we talked about it. It was a great time, I'd recommend it.

The first three posts are from last yeare but made me wonder - Has anyone signed up for 2008 Reading Groups yet?

Actually, I've NEVER heard of this before. It sounds rather intriguing.

If you log into UT Direct there should be something about the Freshman Summer Reading Round-Up 2008 registration. I think the book group discussions are the day BEFORE the first day of classes.

They are the day before classes, Tuesday 26 August.

I'm debating whether to do the one on "We," a book I've had for ages but have yet to read, or the Salinger one with Dr. Carver, who is quite entertaining from what I've seen of him.

Both seem like they'd be a great read...decisions decisions.

I signed up for The Memory Keeper's Daughter!
I can't wait, it seems kind of fun :)

So many of those books to choose from!

Saw mention of the reading group/choice of book on my son's Longhorn Direct, however, he stopped reading years ago. Are any of the books embedded in Warcraft or other visual images he might actually look at?

I signed up for "We", but it was a hard choice!!!! I think I'm still going to buy some of the others. Maybe I can change my registration....anyone else sign up for that one?

Right now I am...and you can change your registration by going on UT Direct to the reading round up page and clicking "change my registration details."

Is there anyway on the UT Direct site to see who else has signed up for the same book?

Apx, you are extremely lucky to have had Solomon during Reading Roundup, have you seen the movie Waking Life? It shows him giving a lecture about existentialism in the rotoscoping animation used in A Scanner Darkly, it's sweet.

DANG, the Atonement session filled up FAST!!
