Kelley Early Admit Letters to be mailed out this week

wait didnt one o f u guys say that u HAD to be top 10% if your school ranked and if the school didnt rank, it was a 3.5 gpa or higher? my school ranks and im in top 15 not top 10.

Dcho--Read my previous post since I cut and pasted the criteria directly off Kelley's website. It doesn't say specifically that you have to be top 10% if you're at a ranking school, just top 10% OR 3.5. They must take whichever is higher, rank or GPA, and use that in their evaluations.

My son didn't apply to Kelley, but just received a letter saying if he'd like, he will be directly admitted into that school. To tell the truth, he was filling out so many applications in a short period of time at the end of his football season, he didn't even look at Kelley. If he doesn't notify them that he doesn't want to be admitted to Kelley, he's automatically in. If he doesn't want to be in, he's to let them know.

Can anyone tell me more about what this opportunity is about?

Thanks!

Your son must have applied to IU as a business major in order to get that letter from Kelley. Kelley is not a freshman-entry school, but they do offer direct admission status to highly-qualified freshmen. First, you're admitted to the university and then Kelley conducts their review for direct admit. It's a great opportunity at a very highly-regarded business school. He should seriously consider it if he intends to study business.

Yes, he applied to IU declaring business as his major, got his acceptance letter some time ago and a Faculty scholarship, and now this. We're very excited - it sounds like a great opportunity - and one we weren't planning on.

Thanks for the information, GBAMom.

I was the one who said that and that is what the admissions councilor told me. She said that if the school ranks you must be in top 10%. The 3.5 is for only the schools who do not rank. I frankly think that's stupid because I have a 3.8 and I can't get in b/c not top 10%? But that's what I was told, and I hope she was wrong.

Did you talk to someone from the general admissions office or Kelley's admissions office? They should be more specific about this ranking issue if the D.A. requirements are that cut and dry.

hotctyplaya, u shud get the letter i tink, i told them my situation about my rank not being top 10% while my gpa is 3.5 or higher, the person from kelley told me that regardless of if the high school ranks or not, they will take wutever stat is higher either top 10% or the 3.5 gpa or above.

Yea the lady was wrong. I received the letter for Kelley today. It's 3.5 OR top 10%. Whoever the hell told me otherwise should not work there anymore cause they don't know anything.

The direct admit requirements are rediculous, at my school a 3.5 makes you eligable for ivy league schools.

unless ur a urm, a typical unweighted gpa that an applicant has to an ivy league school is 3.7+.

From Guapocarlos:
"The direct admit requirements are rediculous, at my school a 3.5 makes you eligable for ivy league schools."

They really aren't ridiculous when you consider they want to maintain certain standards of excellence in order to be competitive. I don't know of any Ivy League schools that would even look at a student with a 3.5 gpa, unless you're an URM, in which case, the standards are lower for those groups, but not for the majority of applicants. Kelley remains more competitive and a higher ranked institution given these requirements. Welcome to the real world....lol.

our schools average GPA for our class is 2.7-3.1, that being said we have had kids into every ivy league school this year and a few with GPA in the 3.5 range.

then ur school is a special, isolated case. typical ivy leage applicants are 3.7+, 700+ sat II and sat I's with top 20 or below ranks. at my school and surrounding ones, the ones that applied and those that got accepted to ivy league and other top schools had stellar stats like i mentioned above. guapocarlos think about it, we're talking ivy league and top colleges there avg.'s do not linger around 2.8-3.5 with below 1300 scores except for certain cases. im talkin general admissions here

and a 3.5 or above gpa for direct admit is sorta generous relative to other top undergrad. business schools, wharton undergrad. business which is number 1 has MUCH MUCH more demanding req.'s for being directly admitted.

nyu stern, usc marshall are other examples of top undergrad. business with much higher requirements.

I got my direct admit letter today!

GREAT NEWS.....CONGRATULATIONS WOLVES!!!!!
Sure softens the blow of the deferment letter from "that other school." BTW, were you able to get any info. on housing from the IU kids back in town? So far, we've heard that the jocks are in Foster (N.W. neighborhood). Not sure if that also means the Sports/Society group, but it's a good possibility.

Called the admissions office - asked about the Sports and Society dorm, and where it's located. She told me that it was currently in McNutt, but it changes and she can't guarantee it's going to be there next year.

Interesting that admissions provided that information but the housing office wouldn't give it up.
