Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES Abroad) 2016-2017

I couldn’t find a thread dedicated to this program, so I thought I’d start one.

I’m a senior and this is my first time applying to this program. I’m also applying to NSLIY and CBYX and since they’re all so competitive I figured I better apply for all three. Does anyone know if YES Abroad is more/less competitive? There seem to be a lot more countries, so maybe more spots to fill?

Also, I’d love to hear from advice from any past applicants! I know the normal stuff (talk about honors, travel, avoid anything showing homesickness, etc.) but any advice specific to this program?

Who else is applying and what are your top countries? Thanks and good luck to everyone!

On facebook there is a YES Abroad 2016-17 applicant group and there’s also an alumni page where you can ask questions of YES Abroad alumni. There’s a few hundred people in each group so you’ll get lots of answers. This part of CC looks like it’s more for college study abroad so you might not get so many relevant responses. Good luck!

Anyone looking for answers to questions about the program or looking to connect to applicants should join. You will notice me pretty much as soon as you join. I do the questions of the day.

Wont let me post the link but look up K-L YES Abroad 2017-2018
