Kent School

Hi, can anyone tell me more about the kent school? Your comments would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks!

We are disappointed about Kent. The interviewer was rude and impatient. The worst of all the school that we interviewed. The have heavier religious activities like a required Sunday morning gathering which I learnt from the tour guide. Buildings were outdated. The tour guides also among the worst of all the interviews. The only thumbs up is the lady at the admission office, very professional and very elegant lady. She is the one who made us to schedule a formal interview, unfortunately she is still the only one appealed to us.

You can pm me with specific questions if you want. i think it is a great school

I went to interview at Kent last month, and while there were many things I liked there were also some that I didn’t like. One of our tour guides was very pleasant but the other was quite rude. I found some of the buildings to be beautiful and the chapel was very pretty but some of the other buildings weren’t as appealing, fx the dormitories.
Another thing I did not like was the fact that all classes are not taught around a round table like most of the other schools, that is one of the main reasons I’m applying to boarding school.

I agree with 7718377 that the lady at the admission office and the lady that that interviewed me were both nice.

The thing that turned me against applying was that for the same money that the other schools cost, Kent cannot offer me the same, and I will get just as good an education where I am now. The deciding factor though was that as an international student I am not eligible for financial aid and there is no way I can afford BS without it.

So I probably won’t be applying there but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t maybe it will be a good fit for you, they have a good athletics program and good theater program and though their resources are not as great as the HADES they really seem devoted too what their doing.

Ah, I see! I sense that Kent has its goods and bads, as does every other school, and an alumni from Deerfield told me that Kent is rising through the tiers, with its fantastic programs. Im not a big fan of the whole “tier” idea, but I was just wondering where Kent School stands in the whole boarding school ideal.

Don’t always judge a book by its cover. The school that my daughter attends didnt do such a great matching for a tour, though they tried. The others students we met overwhelmed us with happiness and school pride. The Admissions staff was over the top with kindness and information about the overall bs process.

My d saw herself there and thus applied in spite of our first tour guide, she loves it.

Our son is at Kent and he loves it and so do we as parents. Strong academics but more friendly, less “cut throat” student body (in our opinion). Strong sports - US National crew champs, New England Prep School football champs but you don’t need to be an athlete to enjoy the school. If you are into math/sciences, Kent has a rapidly growing pre-engineering program which was has been visited by Deans from Princeton and UPenn’s Engineering schools. Regarding chapel, boarding school founded in the Episcopal tradition such as St. Paul’s, St. George’s, Groton and Kent have required chapel but students come from all faiths and backgrounds.

If you have specific questions, please PM me.

I suggest that it is a mistake to judge the quality or fit of a school based on the friendliness or competence of a tour guide; a disintersted admissions officer, however, is quite another matter.

On the matter of Kent School, I know a few Kent students and they are bright, hard working, and accomplished. My son shadowed at Kent when he was applying to school sand enjoyed it greatly. The kids were friendly and the classes were interesting and energetic.

My Uncle went to Kent and only heard good things about the school. Recently had a friend whose daughter graduated and did very well there. I have a Kent colleague who is a terrific person. I met some current students over Thanksgiving break who were polite, outgoing and personable.

I can’t answer to a poor AO. That is unfortunate; they’re human and have bad days too. I’ve run across a few in my time and all I can suggest, if warranted, is writing a letter to the DOA at the appropriate time.
