Kenyon Admissions Regular Decision Fall 2022

I guess the biggest question… is creative writing undergraduate worth the extra money that we would have to pay out of pocket compared to the other university that he’s thinking about. The other university is a Willamette and our cost is double for Kenyon.

Ohhh I love Willamette too! Ok, so I don’t have first hand knowledge of Kenyon’s creative writing program (my daughter’s a history major) but we’ve also been looking at it because that’s what my son is interested in. What we found, and I’m sure I’m not telling you anything you don’t know, is that a huge pro is that Kenyon is known as one of the best writing colleges in the country. So you say, why wouldn’t I go to one of the best writing colleges in the country if I"m interested in writing? But we also noticed that the creative writing major has so many literature requirements that it felt almost like a double major - lit and CW. Where as other schools seemed to curtail the lit requirements if you are a creative writing major. Another plus is there are A LOT of writing opportunities through clubs, on campus publications, and in every class regardless of major. Your son will be able to write a lot at Kenyon! Even in his STEM classes.

I know nothing about the writing program at Willamette, but I was sad to see it go when my daughter decided to go farther from home. But one of her best friends goes there and loves it!

Your son has great choices! I’m sure he can’t go wrong! Good luck!

My daughter was an English major with a creative writing concentration. She also was able to complete a minor in studio art. She took many courses in other departments as well. It was truly a well rounded academic experience. I can’t say enough about what a great education she got at Kenyon.
