Kenyon v. Mac v. Oxy

Hi everyone,

I've been accepted to Oxy, Macalester and Kenyon regular decision. I've gotten similar financial/ merit aid from each of them and am now trying to sort out where I want to go.
I'm interested in either doing a neuroscience focused pre-med track or shifting into a political science/philosophy track and applying for law school. Do any of these schools have a significantly higher acceptance rate into graduate schools or have particularly strong departments in these areas?

I'm also semi-nervous about heading to the Midwest for 4 years. I've visited each of the schools and though I loved the beauty of Kenyons campus, the small size and isolated location was a bit alarming. However, Macalester's campus felt a bit stiffling as well, due to the physically small campus and small student body.

Any advice or comments on life/academics at any of these schools?

Thanks!

Our family spent the last eight months talking to many Kenyon people for D. We had the same concerns about the location and size. Everyone said they loved their Kenyon experience and they were never bored or felt isolated. Can’t speak for the others.

I don’t get the fear of the Midwest. You folks are funny. I’m a born and bred northeasterner, but I’ve never grasped the bias of natives for that region of the country. It’s as if you’ll die if you have to spend significant time anywhere else.

The Midwest is great.

Agree with Plainsman-New Englander, born and bred, spent 3 years loving the Twin Cities, all the fun stuff to do there, and the friendly, hardy Midwesterners. Heck, it snows, but everyone plays outside. Tons of theater, cheap student rush tickets, comedy, sports, clubs-I’d go to Mac in a heartbeat!
Mac has great placement rates for med school…
