What the hell is the point? I wanna smack em so hard for wasting the teacher's time. They do it to raise their GPA, and teachers here aren't so good at kicking out people who don't take the AP exam.

I think it should be a requirement, it would be so much easier to learn in a smaller class with kids who actually give a damn about what they're learning about.

Well, a lot of schools don't pick up any of the bill for AP exams. If someone is taking a bunch of AP classes, maybe they don't want to spend the money to take an exam they don't think they could get a passing score for credit anyways (or maybe wouldn't get credit anyways from their school/schools they want to go to). shrugs Most of the exams are paid for by my school, and therefore required, but I can imagine how painful paying 80 some dollars a test for a bunch of tests would be. Especially if college credit wasn't available for the subject/unlikely.

Colleges don't necessarily see your AP scores during the admission process. It doesn't matter that much in that case...they don't know!

And a bunch of kids in my AP classes take the exam blahblahblah, but don't give a damn about the subject. They still just care about the weighted GPA boost. Just sitting for an exam doesn't mean you care about the subject.

I disagree. Students want to take the highest level course offered. And if they don't take the ap test for some reason, there is nothing to get ticked off about. That is their decision. They may choose not to take an ap test b/c they are already taking 12 and they feel too stressed, or they may feel really unprepared for one. Plus, AP tests are for credit in college courses. And if the college you're going to doesn't even accept 5s on ap tests, then why bother taking them? Whatever the reason, their decision does not affect your life in any negative way, so get over it.

At our school, we have to pay the exhorbitant 86 dollar Collegeboard fees. The school doesn't help a bit. I've taken a class and didn't take the AP exam: APUSH. Due to a horrendous schedule-conflict, I was unable to take Pre-IB History. So, I was forced to take APUSH instead. However, APUSH is taught in two years at my school. whereas Pre-IB History is taught in one year (1 year Pre-IB, 2 years APUSH). Also, due to IB diploma requirements and other scheduling snafus, I was unable to take the second year of APUSH. Thus, I would have been utterly screwed on the exam.

umm one must take the AP test....
My school had over 1200 test given out this past may...
I took PHysics B with the crappist teacher. it was mostly independt study. out of the 15 kids in my class 3 took the test.... i got a 2...

we have 2 periods of AP US each with about 42 kids... our pass rate is about 90%... He usally has about 2 fail a year....

Besides the feeling you get well taking the test... it soo much fun... even if you fail.... i killed my self doing physics independt study and my 2 sucks but i still had fun.

i chose not to sat the us history because i didn't kno how bad the teacher was till it was too late to get out. I knew something was wrong when he was asking other students what the test was like. I could have independently studyed but i was already in an independent study class. So please don't complain about situations you kno nothing about.

hahahaha instead of the money for the ap test bttfgeek paid to fail, should have bought a girlfriend or boyfriend. I used the money i saved to feed me this month.

i took Psychology AP. and I DIDN'T take the AP test.

here's my defense (and possible defenses for others who might do the same thing):
A) I was already taking 5 other AP tests (mind you, I got 5s on every single one)
B) one AP test (Human Geography) would require intense review b/c i took the class fall semester (not by choice)
C) took take an AP test, one must really DIGEST the material, not just superficially learn it. well, i just didn't have the time to DIGEST psychology...
D) I heard that the class really didn't prepare for the AP
E) i was directing a very difficult show (The Glass Menagerie) which went up the week following APs
F) I needed a break between Physics and Latin Vergil
G) My dad told me not to waste his money, and its about quality not quantity
H) the only penalty of my not taking the exam was having to take the final
I and conclusively) I really just didn't feel the need to take that test. it would just be more time on my part that i didn't have, and more energy that i was running low on.

see? we who don't always take the AP test are not such dastardly people after all!

PS: this post was intended to be read with a light, comic tone. its not dead serious or meant to be an attack or anything like that...

oh and you guys are right: that AP class grade multiplier was a wonderful bonus.
