Kind of resume for a full ride here?

I’m seriously considering Temple University. What are the stats / profile that gets a full ride here for an expat/OOS? How generous is Temple in need based aid?

Probably the same sort of resume for the other schools you’re asking about.

Full rides are NOT as common as you might think.

I think Temple recently made a change to their grant policy to make them competitive, so it will take more than high stats to get aid from them. Merit awards sometimes have a need component, so read their eligibility requirements carefully. If they require your dad’s income for merit aid or the CSS Profile for need based grants, they’re probably going to be a financial reach for you.

Temple (as of today) is a FAFSA only school and doesn’t inquire about non custodial parent.

Do they offer any full rides? I know as recently as a few years ago they had tuition scholarships, but they scaled back the number and size of their grants.

They mention nothing about grant / scholarship amounts on their site. The NPC isn’t of any help either. Just came across other posters who did get considerable - full aid here. So wanted to know what made them get that money.

@GuessME5

You are an OOS student for Temple…so keep that in mind as well.

The school used to have guaranteed merit…but no longer has it.

Do you have a perfect SAT or ACT score…and a perfect GPA? Start there, because many applying for competitive scholarships will have this.

Also, why they do offer full tuition scholarships top students, THEY DO NOT offer full rides at all.

I do have a perfect SAT score and GPA. Other aspects of application are also great.

So was wondering how much would Temple offer, an email to them hasn’t been of much help. Hoping any current Temple students/parents/alumni would chime in.

@GuessME5

Apply and see. Really…there is no way to give you an answer. Apply and see what you get.

Did you take the PSAT? Any chance you are in the running for NMF?

They used to have scholarship amounts on their website. Did they take it down?

@austinmshauri yes, because beginning with the class of 2021 they no longer have guaranteed scholarships for stats.

OP you just need to apply. Nobody at Temple is going to venture a guess as to what if any scholarship you may get.

Have not taken PSAT/NMSQT. I wasn’t aware of it until my current senior year. I see it has to be taken in junior year.

For entering students Fall 2017, the cutoff for full tuition merit was around a 34 ACT, based on limited accepted student feedback here. Temple used to do automatic awards, but moved away from that starting with the fall 2017 class. The threshold will move from year to year.

Full tuition is the top offer, that’s the President’s Scholar Award. There is no full ride merit-based scholarship (including room, board, books, and fees) at Temple.

I didn’t follow that stats for Fall of 2018 applicants.

This year, I was awarded the president’s scholarship (full tuition) with a 1490 SAT and a 3.88 uw gpa and a 4.6 weighted gpa. For merit aid, they ONLY look at scores, nothing else (learned this from an admissions officer). I applied early action, which I believe also gives you a leg up. For reference, last year the average SAT for honors was a 1460, so my guess is you have a fighting chance if you’re above that. A 1500 + is obviously ideal, however. Good luck!
