Kinda sad...but need to make a decision

Hey, I really need to make a decision o where I’m going to spend the next four years of my life, and I thought maybe you all could give me some advice.

Accepted: Penn State University Park ($0)
Carleton College($30,000/yr)
Claremont-McKenna ($30,000/yr)
Northwestern ($25,000/yr)
Pepperdine University (don’t know how much yet)
George Washington University (don’t know how much yet)
Washington and Lee University ($25,000/yr)

Rejected: Georgetown University
Cornell University
Johns Hopkins University

Do what feels right to YOU. You'll have to spend the next four years there, make them happy ones!

thanks tribegirl....anyone have any advice on which one has the best international affairs program?

I would think that GW would offer the best opportunities in international affairs because it is just a few blocks from the State Department and should have profs and adjunct professors with international governmental experience. You'd also have relatively easy options to do internships in D.C. I went to grad school at GW (though not in your field), and being in DC has major advantages when it comes to internships and getting to know experts in various fields.

Warning: GWU is not known for being generous with financial aid. I would not suggest taking out more than a total of $20 k in loans to cover your undergraduate years.

so northstar mom....you think gw would be better than northwestern?

Yes, my opinion is that based on GWU's location, it would be better than Northwestern. DC is a world center for international politics. GW is in the perfect location for anyone with that kind of interest. That's also why so many colleges, including Northwestern, offer students semester programs in D.C.

well...thanks a lot, the thing is my mom will be transferring to dc so she is really trying to get me to go to GWU. But soooo expensive...its crazy

Carelton is an amazing school if cold is OK, place where most college professors send their kids, know lots of students chose it over Harvard. If you like smaller classes and ind attention which equals good grad school recommendations, it'd be my pick. Of course if you are looking for great weather and social life with all the above then CMC is a wonderful school , rising rapidly in the rankings, great internationl relations. It was tied with pepperdine for my D's first choice and she did not get in, but did get into Pepperdine. Good luck with your choices, can't go wrong with any!!!

thanks a lot arizonamom, i'm in a tough spot because they're all schools i really want to go to. i was all set to go to pepperdine until i got into cmc and carleton. do you know if carleton is a very social school?

I have heard it has a close knit community but since none of my kids ever considered real winters, I haven't researched it enough. My S's advice to his now senior sister is don't pick a college without spending a night on campus. It clears all the indecision up quickly. If she gets no money at Pepperdine that will be a real problem as we have 2 new colleges to check out and my D is tired of looking at schools at this point. And I thought this would all be clear by April1,.... sigh. I am not as impressed with GWU as the others from all the reading I have done on it, know folks that have gone there but again everything on your list would offer a great experience.
