Kitchen Aid Mixer

Thanks; I actually just used that exact paint on my lamps, worked great

@1214mom do they like to bake? A “cook” might not be interested in one but a baker definitely is!

Our son is an amazing cook and baker so, when he graduated from college, we gifted him with a suite of small kitchen appliances: Kitchen Aid, food processor, immersion blender, Atlas pasta maker, Instant Pot, etc. Last Christmas, he gifted his GF with a large, drop-bowl Kitchen Aid. I’ve been jealous ever since and looking for a reason to upgrade. Had to buy a cabin to justify it, though.

They both cook a fair amount. They don’t bake a lot as far as I’m aware. But the mixers should last for decades, so they will likely get used more at some point.

Op here. I have my mixer now but was considering buying one for D2 if I could find a sale. Target has the lift bowl model for $219. They will probably sell out fast.

Is this a lesser model in anyway? What do we you think of yours if you have this version?

That looks like a good deal to me. The 5qt Professional has a more powerful motor than either 4.5 quart that they have for sale.

DH just ordered the lift-bowl from Target to replace the old KA we left at the cabin. It will be waiting for us when we get home. It’s a great deal and a more powerful machine than I’ve had for the past 28 years, so it will be an upgrade for me. Now waiting on a Black Friday deal to replace the 14-cup Cuisinart food processor we also left at the cabin.

Wow! Mine is VERY old….I’m tempted!

Kohls has a Black Friday sale of an artisan series tilt back Kitchenaid with a slicer attachment (3 diff. blades), 5 qt bowl, and a few more things for 349. Red, blue and silver, I think.

Seems like a great deal to me.
Costco has one but it’s 349.

One thought when considering the lift model is where one plans to use it. I wanted the lift but realized I didn’t have enough clearance under the cabinet where I planned to keep it.
Otherwise I think a KA mixer is a great gift.

The lift bowl is actually considered a better model than the tilt head kind. The reason for that is the lift bowl models tend to have larger, heavier motors than are possible with the tilt head. They are more powerful and have larger capacities for those who make large batches of cookies and/or bake breads with heavy dense dough. The tilt head versions are fine for lighter, occasional use and tend to come in a much wider variety of colors and bowls. Some people don’t like having to move the tilt head kind forward from underneath upper cabinets when they want to use them but personally, I don’t see that as a big deal. It all depends on how you want to use them but all the Kitchenaid stand mixers are great, IMO.

While downsizing, I shipped my tilt head KA mixer to my younger D. (she didn’t have one; older D did.) But I would love to replace mine. With these Black Friday deals, I just might.

Kitchenaid.com is selling lift bowl mixers for $219. Artisan tilt head mixers with 10 attachment pack are $369. Plus other models are on sale too.

Thanks all - I am currently dealing with a death in the family, but saw this deal and had NO extra time to research and all. I knew CC was the place to come for valued opinions. I missed the Target deal largely because you had to pick up at store and I couldn’t make it out to one. But Best Buy also had them, same price so I bought there. Didn’t get a color (silver). But I think she’ll be thrilled.

Thank you for making my life a little easier today. <3

Bye-bye upgrade:

The motor/paddle labored through several batches of (light dough) biscotti, definitely defective. DH returned it to Target but there were no more in stock to replace it with. I really didn’t care for the bowl lift, so I ordered a new tilt-head from KitchenAid. Won’t get it until January 6th, so I guess I’m done with Christmas baking.

Bummer, but glad you were able to return it! I just made a couple of batches of special dumplings that require pretty firm dough, sculpey-firm. I don’t think the lift bowl would have done as well as my trusted tilt head mixer with a dough hook. To make that kind of dough, as it starts to firm up, I have to lift the head up, tamp the dough down a bit, add more flour, lower the mixer head back to stab the dough hook back in, and keep mixing.

Or you could play Pioneer Woman and do it by hand.

Yeah, like that’s gonna happen.

I keep wondering when my very old Kitchen Aid is just going to die…I don’t want that to happen!

I think this is part of it. I’m so used to my faithful “tank” that sensing any loss of power, even if due to a problem with the new KA’s motor, really put me off. And, like Bunsen, I often need/want to raise the head to tamper with the bowl contents. With this model, you have to lower the bowl, and the attachment is still in the way.

I realize I wasn’t able to give this model a fair trial, and I know I could have gotten used to the differences if I’d been impressed by the power I was expecting. However, when DH discovered that there were no more in stock and I’d have to wait an indeterminate amount of time for a replacement, I found that I just wanted my old KA back. I still admire the look of the bowl-lift, and I have envied the many who swear by it, but I guess I’ve been institutionalized by my old countertop friend, and I want her back.

I’ve been thinking about this thread this week; mine has really been getting a workout. It’s about 40 years old and white; every time I look at it I think about painting it like some of you have done. I really want to paint it a navy blue. How are the paint jobs holding up? I have that “I’m just thinking about girl; I’m not gonna do it” TikTok sound on repeat in my head :joy:
