Kitchen Aid Mixer

My kitchenaid mixer resides under the corner cabinets in my kitchen. It’s very easy to slide it forward when I use it…no lifting required.

That’s exactly where mine lives. We use ours fairly often, at least a couple of times of month but even more this time of year. That corner would have no other use anyway so made sense to keep it there.

My irobot went 2 feet down my island yesterday, turned around and went home. D20 had been cooking/baking; it looked like a cyclone had hit; apparently it wasn’t up for the task

We all make choices. For those familiar with Manhattan apartment kitchens (think Carrie Bradshaw’s when she was single, not the one she and Big bought), space is at a premium. The KA resides permanently on the counter tucked under the cabinets when not in use. No productivity issues

Yup - we choose a toaster, a Keurig and a drip coffee maker as our counter clutter. Those get daily use (yeah, I know, we shouldn’t need two coffee makers. At least the tea kettle gets to live on the stove!).

@FallGirl I totally agree with you on the KitchenAid. I generally use a stick blender or a handheld. When H uses the KitchenAid, I end up having to clean all of it and counter where he’s put it. I keep it in the pantry rather than out in the kitchen because we rarely use it

My Kitchenaid came with a plastic flour/splash shield for the bowl. It seems to work quite well to contain the mess.

I have a plastic shield. It is a PITA and especially if you need to add additional ingredients. I’d rather just clean up the counters when I’m done…which I would be doing anyway.

We use our kitchenaid for a lot of things…because it’s there! Mixing meatloaf or meatball ingredients, for example. Really, I could use it at least once a week…but sometimes I don’t.

I had never thought about using it for meatballs! I just use what Julia Child called “A scrupulously clean hand”. Using the mixer would save a lot of scrubbing with the nail brush before and after.

There is a hopper opening in the shield to add ingredients if one wishes; I found that it is easy to remove the shield and then put back on. Mine looks like this:

I wonder if there are different designs.

I hope the next question isn’t for a “good wood chipper” recommendation :grinning:

There’s a KA attachment for that, but only for the drop-bowl model.

Wait wait….her husband uses the Kitchen Aid? Well…that’s a win!

Please explain: are Kitchen Aid mixers messier than any other stand mixer? We’ve had stand mixers for almost 40 yrs and just replaced our most recent model (motor died) with a KA. If they are messier, dear wife will NOT be happy!!

@MADad no, they are not messier.

Any mess is made by the user not the machine.

@abasket did you ever think when you started this thread we’d still be talking about KA mixers almost 11 months later? :joy:

Interesting that the females are schooling a male on whether KA’s are messier without suggesting the male try it and find out.
