Here's a bit of a random question, but are there kitchens where students can cook in any of the Dartmouth dorms? Thanks

Yes, amazing ones in the new and renovated dorms. Everyone must be on a meal plan though, even if you live off campus!

I can't say enough about my son's dorm, in the Mc... Cluster. Everything is like brand new. The kitchen has everything you need and there is a nice lounge area forward in the room, with comfortable furniture for hanging out. Top notch and very nice.

My son is in one of the River dorms, which are apparently among the least desirable, and even they have a kitchen adjacent to a comfortable-looking living room. I think it has a large TV and a piano, amongst other amenities, but I was only able to get a quick glimpse on move-in day.

BTW, I think that the issue with the River is more that they are the farthest away from everything than anything else. S and his roomie have a 3-room suite: each has a small bedroom and they share a small living room. I'd rather have their rooming situation, with the ability to go into my room and close the door, than a large double. But YMMV.

The doubles in the new dorms like the McLaughlin cluster seem to all be 2 room doubles. DS and roommate use as singles but the girls next to them have a bedroom and living room. Then each floor has a kitchen, a lounge and and study rooms. Really amazing dorm set up compared to what my other two had at their colleges freshmen year!

Although it is a little pricey, the Co-Op market is only about a 15 minute walk. My son and roommate live on Top Ramen, Cup of Soup, microwaved nachos, Clementines (they come in a five pound box), fuji apples, gatorade, beef jerky.

Co-op seems to be priced like a NYC supermarket! My food bill has gone way down since DS took his car to school and can now shop at Costco and West Lebanon supermarkets.
