My son was hoping to bring a few cooking items. He wants to bring his waffle maker and panini maker. I said it might be okay if there's a kitchen in the dorms. Anyone know if they have them? Otherwise, I'm certain that they are prohibited.

I recommend not to bring those cooking items. Most dorm rooms don’t have a kitchen. A coffee maker or water warmer would be fine to bring. You should have your son check with his roommates to see what they’re bringing so he can avoid duplicate items if they’re willing to share.

Thanks, we were planning to check what others were bringing once he finds out his roommates. I was asking because my son, who attends another university, has a kitchenette on his floor.

Very domestic! Don’t forget about doing the dishes too! :-). No Kitchen in Glass Hall so if that’s where he ends up no need for any cooking supplies other than microwaveable mac n cheese! Also, there are not an abundance of electrical outlets in these dorms (or space!) so OCELITES recommendation should be taken to heart- no doubling up on things like printers, TVs, stereos, etc.

The dorms don’t have kitchens, but the apartments and suites like Glass, Davis or Harris have kitchens…but freshman aren’t assigned to those. There’s a big community kitchen that everyone shares in Morlan hall. Also, I’m sure he/she will make friends with people who have houses and can open up their kitchen :). The cafeteria on campus is well-stocked with more food than students can ever eat so don’t worry about starving! They have lots of options too
