Hello, my name is Teresa and I am going to be a senior this year.
There are 2 colleges that I am planning to apply to that I absolutely love. I cannot decide wether I like Beloit or Knox. If I can get accepted which one is better? I am planning on studying Psychology and possibly German.
Also, are there any schools that are similar?

After you’ve been accepted to both, do an overnight at each and try to figure it out. There is no point in trying to figure out the answer now on CC.

Here are some Midwestern LACs that may be of interest to someone who’s also looking into Beloit and Knox and whose stats are about average for the two schools:
-Lawrence University
-Truman State (much larger than the others)
-Earlham College (poor German program)
-St. John’s University (MN)

Beloit is better and more stable.

Beloit is a bit more “hipster” than Knox, Knox is a bit “gentler and kinder” than Beloit. My daughter applied to both and was admitted to both but the admitted student day was so much better at Knox and the profs and administration so much more helpful that it was a no brainer for her.

She just completed her freshman year and it was the best school in the world for her, absolutely perfect. PM me if you would like more information. Good luck!

Oh and to answer barrons - don’t know what you’re basing your info on but Knox just had record breaking fundraising this past year and is renovating their Alumni Hall. Things are looking very good for Knox. And of course, it is the college where Presidents love to speak!

Actually Knox’s fin problems have been around awhile and are well know to many.

I’m not doubting that Knox had/has some financial difficulties, but I remember reading here on CC in the Beloit sub forum of difficulties/cuts being made there.

Both are small, Midwestern LAC in towns that for my taste are past their prime. The main difference (I have been to both when my D was looking) is in the academic calendar. Knox trimester, Beloit semester.

We visited Beloit a few weeks ago. I had heard that the town wasn’t that great, and maybe it’s not, but I was pleasantly surprised with it in my 24 hours there. The campus was lovely. Perfect. It was right next to a pretty park. The area surrounding the campus that we walked around in was well kept up, nice houses with gardens. We ate lunch at a really really nice and delicious farmers-market/natural foods grocery store/cafe. There was also a really nice cheese shop on the street. (So, it appealed to my Brooklyn sensibilities.) Maybe I missed something, but superficially it looked pretty nice.

Thank you for all the feedback!!
I am looking into Lawrence and so far I do like it.I think I should put it on my list of colleges to visit :). I am going to visit Beloit next week and I think that that will help me with my decision. I already visited Knox and I really liked it. I know I need to apply to more than just 2 so that was why I wanted more options. I know there is a good chance that I will be accepted into both, but I do worry.
Staying overnight sounds like a really good idea but I am just not sure if I will have enough time to do that since I have school, job, and other responsibilities but I think that I will try.

Lawrence is a great university to look at. It’s located in downtown Appleton, WI which is a great small city. Appleton has a fantastic Farmers market on Saturday’s right in downtown which is a few blocks from the campus. I visited Beloit this past summer and was extremely impressed with the campus as well as the art studio space. The only questions I have are about the student life. What do students do during their free time? The town seemed so small and there didn’t seem to be a lot to do around town. Also, are there big parties during the weekends?
