Korean Sat 2 - scored 790

namkim, I also called the UC's and Stanford. They both had same answers: "we have no preference on what subject tests you take."

yes so i am pretty sure that we can safely assume that colleges do count your native language sat2

Yah, and personally, I think it should make us look better. People say that it is pointless to take it, but studying for this test got me better at Korean. AND, it IS different from U.S citizens taking the English Sat II, because most people that take Korean get confused between their native language and english, so the Korean testing proves how much you can balance both out. So, it DOES have a point, and however much it looks like Koreans are trying to get an easy high score, it IS harder than US citizens taking English, because I mean, everyone's pro at that. And unless you got like 500 on it, college admission officers should be happy about it. But then, those college kids can get harsh, so... shrugs

NAMKIM! :D:D:D:D

But, honestly, is ANYBODY who's not Korean taking the SAT2 Korean?hardly.

There is a reason why that test exists.

yea...i was born in Korea and moved to U.S. (Georgia) 6 yrs ago...
my parents wanted me to take Korean...but took Spanish w/ listening (got 700, yay~) instead cuz i assumed that it wouldnt look impressive since I'm native Korean speaker.

But i really think taking it and getting a high score only helps u as others have said already...

best of luck to u all, my fellow Koreans!

the dif between 790 and 800 is just one problem??
I brought my old cdp (its really~ old) and it malfunctioned at the end of the last three problems. I got two of them but the last one I couldn't get, b/c the cdp stopped playing during the conversation.
I even reported defects in this particular cd, but i think its my cdp problem.
what have I done...

I'm deeply sorry if you feel offended that I used your thread to ask questions about it. But, its not really a question, sorry...

the diff of 790 and 800 can be 1 to 3 problems

How is that offending? ASK AWAY MY FRIENDS. :]

If u r Korean, it looks horrible..

Why? Wasn't the whole thread about how it shouldn't matter?

I Got 800
Owned

i actually haven't taken the ksat yet so this november will be the first i take it.

and i'm pretty much scared ****less because i haven't prepared much- i figure that i could get the ksat prep book on amazon or something ...

i mean, i can speak korean i just have problems with grammar and reading's not too bad...

although i am an eetaewon. so it might be difficult for me.
which should help me. but i would score around 600 right? which is average and still considered adequate...

right?

If you're korean, don't worry about it
I lived in Honduras for 16 years of my life, (I'm 20, by the way) and still I scored a 790.
It's a no-brainer; don't get stressed.
and if you're an eetaewon, don't study for ksat and go to Volume

OK, you can't compare SAT CR or writing to SAT 2 languages simply because both were designed to be taken by mainly native English speakers. Hence, the CR and writing is much harder for a native English speaker (because he/she is expected to be fluent in English) but SAT 2 Korean is much easier for a native Korean speaker (because the test is designed for non native Koreans who most likely aren't fluent).

Second, I don't really believe that acing an SAT in one's native language matters that much. I'm sure that it's the equivalent of a basic exam for elementary/middle school native speakers. Sure, it shows you're competent in two languages, but so are many others.

I heard we didn't have to send our scores (for korean sat II) to the colleges if we didn't like it.
So I probably won't if i don't score a 800.

k let's put it this way
let's say you already have good sat/satii scores
plus 790 on korean

hey that's really cool and good

but if you have only taken 1 sat ii and its in korean and its your "native" language and you got a 790
well...maybe colleges wouldn't like that so much

It actually annoys me A LOT how Koreans take the SAT II test. If I were on an adcom, I'd reject them. This test is designed for people who speak English. It's bad because the English people that actually learned the language get a really low percentile because all of the lazy native speakers take their own language. That would be like me going to China to ace an English test for 5th graders.
