Hi, I’m a Korean citizen living in the U.S., and I’m perfectly bilingual in both languages (I speak Korean at a regular basis with my parents). I saw that they have Korean SAT Subject tests available to take, so I was wondering if it would be helpful in any way if I took it. I took the practice test and looked through some study guides, and it seems really easy, so would there be a point in me taking it, or would colleges not be impressed? I mean, I do know a lot of Korean people who can’t speak Korean that well, and who would have a hard time getting a high grade on this test, so wouldn’t it be worthwhile to just show how fluent I am in Korean compared to others? It couldn’t ever affect me negatively by taking the test, right?
If you are a native speaker I don’t think getting a high grade on the SATII would be a huge deal.
Take it. It will not look bad, and it might prove helpful for you.
Even if it turns out to not be useful for admission, remember that SAT language scores are often used to exempt students from further foreign language study and for placement into higher level courses if students want to continue language study.
Happykid is a native Spanish speaker. She took the Spanish CLEP test and was awarded 12 credits of Spanish-language transfer credit at her college. Cheapest credits of all her four years.
Won’t hurt to take it (as long as you have at least 2 other subject test scores to submit) but is very unlikely to help, either. (Source: I’m an American teacher who’s been living in Korea for 15 years)
