<p>If you listened to his speech, he said "I didn't think there was a cause more important than me" and he continues "I was beginning to learn the limits of my selfish independence." There's more but this is not the place.
Not everyone who is at the top of their class go on to be successful and many not at the top go on to be successful. The same is true that you don't have to go to a top school to do well. It's all about the person. His vision, his growth as a person, creativity, drive, etc will shape him or her.</p>
