LA vs. Berkeley: international acceptance

is it just as hard for an international student to get into UCLA as Berkeley? do they have the same in state preference?

thnx

It is hard, yes. They do not have the same in state preference.

Yes it's hard, but I think getting into UCLA is easier because I did get in UCLA but not Berkeley and I'm intl.

UCLA is rated tougher to get into by the princeton review. but there are many factors to consider, such as the major you pick and also luck

jiceo can you tell me what your application was like? GPA ECs SAT/ACT??

I would say that it all depends on what major you choose.
Juliushark:
My SAT wasn't that great really, 1900s.
My ECs were a bit different, like working on some projects with experienced people related to my major.
GPA was around 4.3-4.4 weighted. My essay was a pretty good I think, no BSing and about some difficulties I had no control over and how I overcame them.
My chosen major for Berkeley was EECS and for UCLA is CSE.

i go to Taipei American School and 14/59 were accepted to UCLA and 5/45 to UC Berkeley; the acceptance to UCLA is actually about the same, maybe abit higher for international and out of state. The reasons may be 1. there are fewer ppl applying from out-of-state/international 2. the applicant pool is stronger because most international students who want to study abraod have a very strong academic background.

i have noticed also that many ppl accepted by UCLA were accepted by UC Berkeley and some ppl who are heading to UC Berkeley were rejected by UCLA. different schools look for different things...

Hahaha, most TAS people have a very strong academic background.
Yeah, getting accepted to UCB but not UCLA it happens a lot, actually both ways. It's hard though to get accepted by both schools. The only person I know from TAS that got accepted to both actually tried to cancel the application because she had already gotten into her 1st choice college during EA.
