Lab Research at Stanford University

Has anyone attempted to get a research position here? If so, how was your experience? Was it a real project or were you helping out a professor? Just curious.

I actually am completing an unpaid internship there this summer. I’d say it’s been a great experience thus far, as I’ve learned plenty new techniques and biological concepts along the way. The social atmosphere is really wonderful as well, and it’s really not what I’d expect (in a good way). I haven’t done my own unique research per se, but I am very involved in many of the experiments and am well aware of the goals and reasons for which I’m carrying out these experiments. I’d say it’s been an enlightening experience, and a great way to acquaint yourself with the “research” side of things. Also, if you do ever acquire an internship at a university, you’re more than likely to be mentored by a grad student than a professor.

@Yellersam Thanks! How often do you think I should expect to work per a week?
