LAC student wants engineering MS

My son is attending a small well regarded liberal arts college. He is double majoring in Spanish and Geology/Physics. He wants to go the grad school for environmental or civil engineering. I assume this can be done, can someone tell me the pros and cons of getting to engineering in this way. When he started college he had no idea what he wanted to study, thus the liberal arts school.

Interesting question-- bumping it up.

Maybe you should put this question on the parents cafe?

Generally, one does not have to have an undergraduate degree in a field to pursue graduate study in the discipline. However, engineering may be different, and I’m guessing that at least he may have to take some undergraduate courses to build a foundation. The physics/geology courses should probably serve him well in that regard.

Thanks Karen Colleges and Polarscribe for responding. I found an old thread on this topic and got some useful info: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/engineering-majors/733893-masters-engineering-without-bachelors-engineering.html.
