Lack of Rigor during Junior Year

Hi, I’m a Junior right now and I feel that my range of classes took a decline due to scheduling conflicts. My first two years I did will in accelerated core classes along with French and other electives. I was wondering if anybody give me advice as to what I should do to boost my application. I was thinking of explaining in the additional info section of Common App but I’m not sure.

Here’s an overview of my classes now:
AP Prep American Studies
American Government (could’ve taken weighted last semester but I didn’t want to)
Pre-Calc/AP Prep Pre-Calc (failed the class last year and was able to switch up due to good grades in regular)
Journalism (taking weighted this semester)
American Studies Social Studies (I had to drop the class after not being to complete the summer homework & an important quiz due to me not having the textbook until the first Friday) (If I stayed I would’ve started out with a F) (I’m self-studying for APUSH since I really love History and want to learn the subject in depth) (it was a lack of proper judgement on my part)
Zoology
Sports & Entertainment Marketing

I plan on having a better schedule next year with

Advanced Composition (like AP Lang)
AP Literature & Composition
AP Environmental Science
AP Psychology
Calc AB
Internship

If someone could please help me figure out what I should do to explain this properly. Thanks in advance.

I’m assuming it’s too late to switch courses for second semester?

If the only way to explain it is by further pointing out the fact you did poorly in another course, then don’t. They can probably tell by your transcript and writing such specific excuses doesn’t really demonstrate maturity (definitely don’t say “could have but didn’t want to”). The most you can do right now is perform outstandingly in what you’re already taking and then maybe highlighting your passion in one of those subjects. Otherwise, maybe try to demonstrate your eagerness for intellectual challenges over the summer instead.

School just started this week with some snow days so it’s not too late to switch. I wanted to take AP Psych instead of Zoology but the class is beyond full. I’m doing Discover World of Communications at American University and What Makes a Star? at NYU this summer. Thank you for the advice, I need to stop stressing. I want to do Public Relations so it’s important for me to do well in English & Journalism. All of my classes are fine except Zoology which doesn’t interest me since I’m not a science person.
