Lafayette Questions: Part II

Hey Justin,

I applied in Early Decision. I have already posted my stats. I would like to know when will we get the decisions and how to know about it(like email or sth). And Justin I also applied in engineering(regretting after hearing what u said). But I have also listed Physics and Maths in my common app. Will there be case like i wont be accepted at ee but at phy or math??

Thank you

Megaaadi,

As noted on the Admissions portion of Lafayette's website:

<<< Decisions on ED applications normally are made within one month of receipt of your completed application forms, including the ISFAA if you are seeking financial aid. >>>

Assuming nothing has changed in the process, you should receive the decision first by email and then by regular mail (with enclosed materials).

Don't worry too much about listing engineering as an intended major. You aren't technically accepted into different programs at Lafayette. However, as noted previously, admissions officers do consider intended major(s) when evaluating applications.

And,

I m giving sat 2 on december 1. Its score will be out on 29th dec only what to do about it? Should I inform admissions committee about that?
Thanks again

Megaaadi,

By the time you receive your SAT II scores, you will have already been notified as to your decision. SAT II scores are not mandatory, so there is really no need to notify admissions officers.

If I sent my ED application in early November, but my grades were just recently sent, when should I expect to find out if I am accepted or not?

asdf232425,

As noted on the Lafayette website:

<<< Decisions on ED applications normally are made within 30 days of receipt of your completed application forms. >>>

So, as soon as your transcript is received, expect to hear back within 30 days. The office is currently very backed up, so definitely give admissions officers the full 30 days before calling up to check on the status of your application.

There is also a chance you might hear back sooner, but don't bet on it!

Justin

Sorry , I wasn't quite clear before. I'm talking about my first trimester grades. My transcript was sent along with my application. Does that change anything about when I will hear back, or is it just within 30 days of when they receive everything?

asdf232425,

Ahhhh, I see. Thanks for the clarification.

Honestly, it's difficult to say. Like I said, the admissions office is a bit overwhelmed at the moment. Those first trimester grades were needed in order to properly evaluate your application, so it's entirely possible you'll have to wait another 2-3 weeks.

Why don't you call up the office at (610) 330-5100 and ask them to check up on your application? Whoever picks up will, at the very least, be able to tell you if the grades were received.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help. If you haven't already guessed, the admissions process is not an exact science!

Here's hoping for a thick envelope whenever that decision does arrive.

Hey Justin

I just received the email that says my packet has been received. It was delivered in 20th nov but the reply was of 28th. Does that mean i have to wait until december 28th??

Megaaadi,

Expect to hear back no later than December 28th.

Hey Justin

I don't know if i m being paranoid but are international students really accepted at lafayette in early decision???
Have you found anyone. I contacted Mr staats and he said my decision would be next week is it likely that i will be deferred to rd?

Megaaadi,

If international students were never accepted ED, Lafayette wouldn't offer the option! Many international students are accepted ED. Rest assured that I do know the names of a few that have already been accepted.

Wait until you receive your decision next week before coming to any sort of conclusion. What makes you think you've been deferred? Others have received their decisions at this point only because they sent in their applications earlier.

Just relax, take deep breaths, and patiently wait to hear back from Lafayette.

Justin

thanx for the consolation but this anticipation is killing me ..Any way thanks for advice....Hope I get accepted

Megaaadi,

Best of luck to you! Let me know (by PM if you so desire) what happens.

Hey Justin,
My decision has not come out yet. I just today emailed Mr. Staats. My sat 2 scores have come out, its 2330. Do i have to tell them or sth?

Megaaadi,

Yes, definitely let Mr. Staats know of your new scores via email. If a decision has yet to be reached on your application, any new information you send will be taken into consideration.

Hey justin

When is the college holiday?? I mean will i get the decision some time soon??

Megaaadi,

The Admissions Office will be closed December 24, 25, 26 and January 1. I'm sure they are trying to send out as many decisions as possible before the holiday break.

Hang in there!

Justin -- My daughter submitted her application to Lafayette (RD) last month and she received a letter from the admissions office acknowledging receipt of all required materials. The letter also noted that even though she had interviewed with an admissions officer on campus, it was common practive to have an alumni interviewer contact applicants once they had applied. No timetable was provided, and off course only 3-4 weeks have passed since she received the letter, but we were wondering how long it might be until she hears from an alum. (There are, incidentally, several Lafayette alums in our small town, including two next door neighbors).

hudsonvalley51,

Your daughter should be contacted by an alumni admissions representative sometime within the next few weeks. Unfortunately, there really isn't an exact timetable for contacting applicants...AARs receive lists of applicants' names and are expected to set up interviews promptly. I do know that January is THE month for most alumni interviews, so hang in there!

Don't try calling up the Admissions Office with questions about alumni interviews. The program is actually conducted through Alumni Affairs.

FYI, an off-campus interview would not count much toward her application. However, if she wanted the chance to speak with an alum to learn more about the College, it might not be a bad idea.
