I have seen Lafayette ranked above Kenyon several times, but I have also seen Kenyon rated higher. Which one is better? (Academically)

I would say that both colleges are comparable when you talk about academics. However, in choosing a college, I will consider factors other than academics such as the location, types of people present in each college, campus and such.

The simplistic answer:

We looked at both, decided that Laf was more NY-ish in focus and Kenyon more a tree-hugging midwestern setting (and we LOVE that stereotype...don't get me wrong).

Some would say that Easton, as a host town stinks, others would say the fertilizer around Kenyon stinks...particularly in the Spring.

I think both student bodies (are forced to) have a college-centric view on social activities, since both colleges are darn isolated. The towns don't add much.

Laf is D-1A or D-2, athletically speaking, Kenyon a D-3, if that is of any intersest...and if it is, look to see what schools they compete against. If seeing Colgate and Army on the schedule is impressive, so be it. If Oberlin and College of Wooster tickles your offspring's fancy, great (I LUV Wooster, BTW).

Other than Kenyon's outstanding/mind-boggling swimming program (and nifty new athletic center which would make any club sport athlete's heart beat faster), the physical plants are similar enough to make that aspect a non-issue.

Hope that helps.

Oh yes, you should definitely check out Kenyon's New Athletics Center!!

Oh well, I cant wait to get to campus this fall! :p

I think Kenyon has a better name recognition. Lafayette may be ranked well but usually not as well recognized.
