Hi guys!
I have GOT INTO Lafayette and Drew (as my top choices), and Dickinson and Wheaton as my second choices.
I’d like to know your feedback on these four colleges, specifically with respect to the following aspects, but feel free to give me any other info you feel I could use:
(1) Campus rural-ness. I’ve heard that Lafayette and Dickinson are in the extremely rural settings. Though I don’t want an urban, city-center campus, I sure don’t want to go to some place in the back of beyond. Semi-urban, and say about an hour or two from major cities, would be best.
(2) Student diversity. Of course, this is represented by a school’s out-of-state percentage, but any personal views y’all have on this are welcome. (I’m looking for high campus diversity, with low same-state students, and a fair amount of international folk too.)
(3) Sports. I’m not an all-out sports buff, unlike nigelb’s son, but I surely do want to go to a school that participates in a respectable sports conference. I play basketball, and sail too.
Well, these are the three factors that are top of mind for me right now, but any other great feedback on ANY aspect regarding the above four colleges would be WHOLLY APPRECIATED.
Thanks!
I think Drew is not of the same academic caliber as Lafayette and Dickinson.
Are you planning to participate in sports in college or just be a spectator?
I really like Dickinson but if the sports thing is important to you (and I’d argue that it should be a distant second to academics) then maybe Lafayette should be your choice.
Hmmm I do know that. You see, Drew and Wheaton both gave me ~18k scholarships. Though money isn’t the main main criterion here, it is definitely a factor.
As I mentioned in my first post, I’ve heard that Dickinson is in an extremely rural, somewhat hick town sorta setting. Any ideas as to that?
I’m not a die-hard sports fan, but since I play basketball and sail (though none of the colleges I’ve got into have sailing teams [just yet ]) I’d for sure like a college that participates in a respectable sports conference.
Just FMI, are you a student or a parent?
Parent
Well, definitely factor in the scholarships. That wasn’t mentioned as a consideration in your first post.
As far a geographic locations, its not like Madison NJ nor Norton, MA are booming metro areas. Personally, I prefer either cities or small towns to suburban sprawl. The area of town around Dickinson is well maintained IMHO.
Hmmm. True. Thanks anyway @doschicos ; I’ll ask you if I need to know anything else. Which college has your son/daughter gone to?
Lafayette and Dickinson are the best academically. Lafayette is better for sports, Dickinson is more international-minded.
Drew is in a very nice area and close to NY, about an hour train. The whole area around Drew is very nice with lots of things to do. Madison, Morristown, Summit, Chatham all lovely, leafy towns where you will want for nothing. They all have nice downtowns and are very upscale areas.
However, Drew is a very average school. Nothing like Lafayette in terms of prestige, not even close.
Dickinson is not rural, and the town and campus set in the town are extremely nice. Drew is not in the same league with Dickinson.
