Is it just me or is having more than $13,000 in loans per year plus work study lame? I can't really afford to go to GT if I am going to be in debt $52,000 (plus interest and any amount that the tuition increases)

anyone know what to do about it?

I'm going to have a similar amount of loans to take out, but Georgia Tech has an excellent Co-Op program. I would recommend taking advantage of that to help offset the cost. The Co-Op program is actually the primary reason I chose Georgia Tech. Also, you pay in-state tuition when you study abroad. So if you spent a year studying abroad thats like $17,000 less IIRC that you'd owe that year. Also, tuition at Georgia Tech is locked at the price you were given for 4 years when you started. So you'd only have to worry about tuition increases if you were there longer than 4 years (though that is pretty common, especially if you co-op).

im out of state (from Virginia) but GATech gave me more scholarships than my state schools, one reason i'm going there.

GrumFrum, where are you from and how many years do you plan on staying at Tech? I think coop extends your stay atleast 1 year on top of the 5 years it takes many people to graduate there. so, that's like 6 years!! i know i'm doing coop but that's a looong time just for undergraduate!

The length of a co-op really depends on your major. Sometimes you can take a single semester off. Other times you have to take the whole year because certain classes are only offered in the fall and spring and they have to be taken in succession.

Also, as far as I know you do not pay tuition while on a co-op, but you get all the benefits of being a student at Tech.

I am from Michigan and I plan on staying at Tech for as long as it takes, heh. I don't mind it taking 5-6 years to graduate because I figure that I have my whole life ahead of me afterward and you're only an undergrad once, so why rush through it?

i suppose so. also, did you apply to UMich Ann Arbor, considering that it's in-state for you and ranks right next to GATech in engineering?
