Anyone have experience with the Visiting College Students summer program at Landmark College in Vermont? We're thinking of sending Fang Jr there.

There are several Landmark College Facebook pages. The posts on the Alumni page seem pretty positive.

I don’t know of anyone who has gone. We considered it for S but my H did not want to spend the money. I think my son could have used it. Son is finishing up his 3rd yr of college but has definitely had many ups and downs. Son has had a huge learning curve.

A family we know has been very happy with with a program through College Living Experience. It is expensive but their son who has pretty severe Aspergers has been successful living away from home. He is in Denver and I think attends a CC. It looks like they have a program in Monterrey. Don’t know if that is close enough for you to take a look and see if it has something to offer.

I think Landmark is for students with learning issues…you may find it helpful to post on the LD subforum.

Siliconvalley, Landmark is for students with learning issues. But I’m seeking input from people who don’t necessarily have children with learning issues, and who therefore don’t read that little-noticed forum.

I have heard great things about the College Living Experience in Denver. Sadly, the same person who raved about CLE Denver was not at all impressed with CLE Monterey.

Cardinal Fang- sorry to hear that about the Monterey CLE.

I emailed Landmark to ask if 529 funds could be used to pay. Here is the response:

Also interesting:

I have a nephew that attended Landmark during the regular school year. He said two things that I recall:
- there were a lot of wealthy international students there. Many had a sense of entitlement and lots of ready cash
- He got some very specific reading training that helped him immensely. He said they really delved into his challenges and had specific techniques to try. He said he wished he’d had that same training back in grade school because it changed his life.

So, might be worth it if the kid came away with new abilities.

A former neighbor’s D (LD, but not Aspie) attended a summer program at Landmark during high school and then went there for her first year of college before transferring to a 4 year school. The parents felt the programs really prepared her for the transition and last I heard, she was having a very successful college experience.

One thing I remember her saying was that there was a lot of drama with some of the kids.
