I want to continue French, but I am not sure yet. If I take the placement test, am I obliged to take the course at UVA?

I am also going to take the Korean placement test, and I am sure I will be exempt from the language requirement. If I am exempt from a foreign language requirement, would I get credit for those classes at all?

To anyone taking the language placement test be sure to keep a printed copy of the results in a secure place. You have to bring this documentation to your class the first week to show you belong in that level. You cannot go back in and reprint the outcome again after you take it.

Contact the Dean on call at the College of Arts and Sciences for a definitive answer. But, like Hazel, I can’t see why not. In fact, if you want to take more French after taking it in high school, you have to take the placement test. Not sure if the same is true for Korean, or not, but I think you mentioned you are a native Korean speaker or at least have been exposed to the language at home, rather than a former student of the language at high school.

There should not be a conflict in times. One takes the French test either on-line or during orientation. Korean is taken later. But again, your best source of information is the College of Arts and Sciences. Give them a call; they would due happy to talk with you.
