Does UMD require a language in the core program and if it does up to what level Spanish? I've checked all over the place and don't see anything about a language requirement. I was thinking about applying as a transfer and really need to know up to what level Spanish if any is required at UMD.

It is a college requirement, not a university one. I know ARHU requires a language, but CLFS does not. Those are the only two I know though.

So the UMD CP (University of Maryland College Park) does not require any language courses? I checked UMBC (University of Maryland Baltimore county) and it says that you need at least a 201 language course for the core curriculum.

As ginab591 put it, it depends entirely on your major. Arts and Humanities (ARHU) is the only college I know of with a language requirement. So for instance, if you’re majoring in English, history, communication, etc. (majors within ARHU), then you have to take a language to the intermediate level. You should go check the college requirements for whatever major(s) you’re interested in.

I think in most cases, if you take a foreign language past year four level in high school, you can be exempt from the requirement.
