Language requirement

I've taken spanish through all 4 years of high school. Recently I took the placement exam and I wasn't even able to finish because it never said how many questions were on the test, therefore I was never able to gauge how much time to spend on each question. So, as of right now, it seems as though I will have to end up taking at least a semester of spanish at Umich.

I was wondering if anyone has heard of possible study abroad/other programs that I would be able to use towards fulfilling the language requirement. Also, if this is not an option for me, which spanish class would you guys recommend? I have seen quite a few cinema/music classes in spanish on the Course Guide, but it seems as though those have filled up pretty quickly.

Also, if for some reason I do not place out of 3 semesters, is it possibly to simply go straight to the 4th term no matter what I'm placed in? I think I would do just fine, even though 4th term spanish seems to be fairly difficult at Umich.

You have to take the semester you place into. Absent some kind of special dispensation, you cannot go below or above the placement.

It is possible to pick up the language requirement through study abroad but you have to make sure it qualifies. I think the rule is that it must be on campus or through a U-M program unless the department signs off on it.

I knew that I couldn’t go any lower than what I was placed into, but why wouldn’t I be able to take a higher level class if that’s what I wanted? That doesn’t make much sense.

They won’t let you take it because they don’t think you are prepared for it.

If your ate placed into the fourth semester Spanish take aa themed Spanish class. The exams ate then half facts you learn half grammar. Id recommended Spanish woman who mad history with Isabel larrotiz. I had never enjoyed Spanish until I took her class.
