Language requirements for admission

I have been taking french classes since age 6. Also took French in middle school and took proficiency exam in French and received a 91.
When I started HS I took french placement test and placed in French 3.
9th grade French 3 B+
10th Grade French 4 B+

My school has AP French, but French 10th grade french teacher told me no when I requested to take AP French.
Will it look bad for admissions that I just took 2 years of French?

Don’t think of it as “2 years of French.” Think of it as “through French 4.” That’s as far as they could reasonably expect anyone to take a foreign language in HS, and because your French teacher disapproved your request to take AP French it is also as far as you were allowed to take it.

Make sure you take a full load of five core academic subject courses (English, math, foreign language, science, history/social studies) every year. If you’ve completed the French courses available to you, then you could take an extra math or science course or something like that to fill that slot.

You should not need to start another new language for your last 2 years of HS.

Regardless of the level of the classes, we advice students to take their core subjects (and FL is a core subject) all four years of HS. Those who start in middle school (which has been the norm at many schools for a long time) tend to get to the AP or post-AP level.

Now, the admission review is about the overall strength of your case, so this doesn’t mean that not continuing will prevent you from being admitted.

My school does not offers anything beyond 1 AP French (That is the highest level). Also AP courses are ONLY for juniors and seniors and kids are chosen in a lottery. My school has 400 students per grade. So the chances of me getting place in AP French class are slim.
On the other hand, I have been taking all other core subjects each semester and choosing the most challenging courses available to me.

Ugh. Advise.

So with otherwise equivalent records, a student who completed French 4 with a B+ and then used that slot for other languages (Spanish 1, German 1) would get preference over a student who completed French 4 with a B+ and then used that slot for other subjects (Math, Science)?
