I started taking French in 6th grade, so by the time I was a freshman I was taking French 4 and I’ll take AP French next year as a junior, most of the colleges I’m looking into require/recommend four years of the same foreign language in high school, but there is no French class for me to take senior year. Should I retake French 1 my senior year or not take a language at all? Or will it not matter that I didn’t take four years of a language because I took AP?
You have taken 4 years of French, so it’s fine. My daughter is a junior and taking AP Spanish this year. Most stop after that, but she will be taking IB Spanish (conversation) next year so as to not go a year without practicing her Spanish, not because she needs it for college admissions. Colleges consider her to have taken 4 years of the same language after completing AP Spanish (started in junior high).
It is not how many years of a FL you take in HS, it is how high the level you reach. If you take up to French 4/AP, that means you have at least 4 years which is acceptable for all schools.
Agreed, if you take AP French you are fine.
In our experience, it was the level you reach not the actual number of years. You should be fine.
