I am a high school sophomore attending a normal public high school in America. I have great grades and pretty good extracurricular activities. On Saturdays, I attend a Japanese Language School. It's from 10 am to 4 pm, class taught in Japanese only (I'm fluent in Japanese). However, lately, I'm really not enjoying this school. I feel like I'm wasting time, I could be doing homework or hanging out with my friends!

So my question is, should I keep on attending this school? Would it boost my college resume that much?

Thanks in advance

IMHO, those language schools do not impress college adcoms.

ok thanks for the help

It looks like you are attending one of the Japanese schools that are designed to help Japanese kids who are living abroad stay on track to re-enter the Japanese school system when/if they return. Am I correct about that? If so, and if you aren’t expecting to move back/to Japan in the next few years, and won’t be applying to any Japanese universities, then this may be a good time to talk with your parents about leaving. But before you do leave the program, check to see what evidence you can have for your language proficiency. Will the school itself give you a certificate of some kind? Is there an exam administered by the Japanese government that you could take? It also probably would be a good idea to take the Japanese SAT and/or Japanese AP exams. Depending on where you end up going to for college, a good score on the AP exam would earn you some college credits.

Happykid dropped Saturday Spanish school for other ECs at the end of 10th grade, so I can absolutely understand that you might be done with Japanese school. She was able to earn 12 semester hours of credit with the Spanish CLEP exam.

@happymomof1 Yup, it’s one of those schools. I’m most likely going to attend an American university, and I’m taking the Japanese SAT and Ap test in the near future. Anyways thanks for the advice! I will strongly consider dropping it
