Languages

Is it ok if I only take 3 years of Chinese, and change to Spanish in my senior year of high school, if I want to get into Princeton, etc?

3 Years of the same world language should be fine for most, if not all, schools although some may recommend 4 years.

I agree with billcsho. It is better to stay with one language than to switch around.

For Princeton, this is the suggested HS preparation (emphasis mine):

Here are requirements/suggestions for other schools:

You are better served continuing in Chinese.

Also note that school’s along Princeton’s caliber have a foreign language requirement to graduate; your odds of placing out are significantly better with 4 years than 3 years, and 1 year of Spanish in HS is unlikely to get you any higher placement in college.
