I am trying to buy a laptop right now. What are some tips on buying a laptop for college.
Any other information is appreciated

It really depends on what you plan on using it for. If all you’re going to use it for is typing up papers, browsing the internet, and music/videos then pretty much any laptop will work(even a small 10" netbook would work great for that purpose as they’re very portable, affordable, and have a long battery life). However, if you plan on doing intensive work such as video editing, 3D Modeling, AutoCAD, etc you will of course need something much more powerful. Look through your major’s school for their laptop policy and spec requirements and start from there. You may not even need a laptop your first year, and if that’s the case, you can hold off from buying one and scope out what the other students are using for their work.

Make sure you actually need a laptop before purchasing it. I’m aware of several people on campus whose needs would be better served by a cheaper, more powerful desktop.

If you’re set on getting a laptop, make sure you take weight and size considerations. I’m also aware of many people who have laptops who never take them anywhere because they’re too heavy/annoying to move around.

Personally, I have a desktop and a cheap laptop (ebay!) I use to carry around and use Office/Internet etc.
