Laptop/computer discount

does the school give discounts for laptop if you buy thru them or as a student or something? that’d be nice :)

Please check out the TechHUB at the Bookstore, UC Davis Bookstore where you can view what is available to students.

I received an e-mail from the Bookstore saying that they were offering discounts for students but I think it's limited time only or as long as supplies last.

hmm i didn't c that

You can also get a 10% discount from the Apple Store if you want a Mac ( (I believe it was 10% but I may be remembering incorrectly.) Here is the direct link to the UC Davis online Apple Store.

OR you can just buy straight from the UC Davis bookstore - it's up to you. The model I wanted wasn't available on the bookstore so I went for the Apple Store of Education instead, though.

No discount for ipods? Lame

ipods aren't exactly required for school, so why would they be something discounted for education?

fooshy

do the majority of people at UCD use Apple laptops? because I'm more of a Windows guy (have been for all my life) and just wondering if i will have to make the transition

nooo i don't wanna go to apple! =[ but why does it matter if they use apple or windows?

thats what im trying to find out as well. there could be factors that could hinder/inconvenience windows users if the majority are apple users i think...

not that i can think of.

ugh apples.

Just tell them to get back to you when their mommies buy them a real computer.

More people use Windows at UCD. You'll see a good amount of Macs, but there's at least three times more Windows-based laptops... mostly 'cause it's A LOT cheaper! =]. I do love Leopard, though. I just wish Apple would give us more options for customizing the hardware inside the laptop like Dell and HP ($2000 for a laptop? No thanks!)

They give discounts for Dell computers, if you want to go the PC route.

I've had horrible experiences with Dell in the past so I went with the Mac. Had they given discounts on, say, an Alienware, I would have gotten a PC instead.

Dell PCs are a death trap, don't buy Dell -_- HP over it every time!

Sagers over everything. If you're serious laptops, go Sager or Clevo

I would have to vouch for Dell over HP.. a lot of my friends have the same HP laptop, and two of them have this issue where the screen's plastic molding splits itself in two next to the hinge. One of my friends' HP is so bad that she can't even close it.

My Dell is ancient and is running like a champ; it's even faster than some of the newer laptops my friends purchased (thanks to all the bloatware on their laptops =P)

Or compal, since the manufacture a lot of the sager/clevo line. But really that only applies if you want to game. If you're just looking for a good laptop for school, then lenovo and fujitsu are great.

as far as dells and hp and gateway are concerned. id say they are all about the same build quality wise if you go with their consumer lines. HP and gateway tend to look flashier, while dells look a bit more toyish?

someone mentioned alienware over dell. i just wanted to point out that alienware is owned by dell. not that it's a bad thing.

anyways good luck in finding a laptop. do your homework though, there's a lot to choose from

lol i don't think any school will give u discount on alienware haha

actually alienware has a student purchase program. its not the university that gives you a discount, but alienware does. https://www.alienware.com/profile_pages/sfpplogin.aspx

but if you really want a gaming laptop, definitely look into sager/clevo over alienware. you really pay more for name than specs when it comes to alienware.
