laptop for college - hard drive space on macbook

I'm considering getting a mcbook pro with retina display for college. They usually come with flash storage and they are more expensive then regular hard drives. I was wondering if getting a smaller capacity hard drive would be a big deal for my uses.

I'm a regular user who doesn't use my computer for anything extraordinary; just the basics for school and occasionally I will download music/movies/tv shows and i will need somewhere to store that, but thats just entertainment and it's not that much right now.

I would still have my old PC which has 500 gb and I would probably get a 1 TB external HDD, so for me, a business major in college next year, would 128 SSD be enough or is that too small.

thanks for any advice

Is there a reason you want to get the retina display? If you have the PC as a backup, I personally would get the 13" Macbook Air with 256 ssd and 8 gb of ram. I have run out of hard drive space with 128 since you will be putting in programs like MS office etc. The 8 gb of ram is a must if you are using iMovie to edit movies, etc.

Pro is for “Professionals”; get Air. Period.

You will get tired of lugging your Pro around, trust me. All of your stuff will fit fine on a (lighter) Air. If it doesn’t you can just get an external drive for $80 to store old photos, movies, etc.

Honestly if the weight difference between the air and pro is a problem for you, you’ve got bigger issues to work out.
