laptop for Industrial Design

I am attending Notre Dame in the fall and plan on receiving a degree in industrial design and possibly mechanical engineering as well. I have been an IBM user all my life but have heard and seen that mac's seem to be the preferred laptops for design students...any suggestions?

Macs are the pretty much needed if you're an artist in any discipline; they're made with the knowledge that people will be creating artistic things on them. Photoshop, Aftereffects and Flash were basically made to be used on Macs. You'll get your moneys worth out of one.

so i've heard..thank you!

In general, Macs are more commonly used for design programs but there are some exceptions -- and Industrial Design specifically seems to be one major that uses PCs at least as frequently as Macs.

My son is a third year ID major at RISD and his required laptop is a PC.

MY DD gets a laptop free from her college, all art and design students are issued MAC's and the rest get IBM laptops.
