laptop for orientation

Is it a good idea/worth the hassle to bring a laptop to orientation? I heard if you don't have your own laptop you have to wait in a long line to sign up for classes and spots get filled up quickly?

Yes. It's a very good idea. It gets very hectic during sign-up times.

does this also apply for freshman orientation?

will it matter for the freshman orientation on aug 10-12...should i bring my laptop?

for like 101 to 105 or so (before classes able to reach their limits) i don't see any need in it besides you can use it to plan out your schedule, each orientation counselor should have 2 or 3 computers for your orientation group to sign up for classes with and each orientation group is only about 10 people so its not like long line... but in later orientations you might see classes filling up and want to sign up ASAP then you can just bring your laptop and sign up when they unlock your sign up time

why it's good to bring a laptop:

if you do not have any inkling of possible schedules, you can figure it out on your own time on your own computer without the stress of going to a full computer lab, waiting in line, and getting kicked out after a certain period of time.

if you have classes you really want to make sure you get, or if you don't want to wait for the rest of your orientation group to go first (because most OCs will prioritize by who needs to go first), then bring a laptop so you can sign yourself up instead of waiting to use your OC's computer.

because we all know future college students can't survive 3 days without a computer...

warning: BRING A LAPTOP LOCK and make sure it's one with the keys, not the combo (because it would suck if your lock breaks and doesn't recognize your combo, as has happened to me).

a laptop can be a very useful thing to have, but if you've already planned out and printed a few sample schedules to talk about with your OC, and if you'd rather spend orientation exploring UCLA and not online, then you don't really need it.

BRING A LAPTOP (if it's convenient). no matter what orientation you are.

i would have gotten the GE i wanted in orientation108.

Who cares laserbase, never hurts to be safer than sorry.

I guess they are right, I said 101-105 didn't really need it was just based on my personal experience, I had my schedule planned out before going to orientation and since none of my classes were close to full I didn't have to sign up with my laptop, so I took it to orientation for 3 days without using it lol

YES BRING ONE so you can use it to look up classes.

can i look up classes here</p>

I DO NOT understand why OC's tell you to physically look up your classes on paper @ Covel. I see no advantage to this, plus it is really inconvenient and inefficient.

^Also class status may change right after they post up it up on Covel.

Do you mean can you look up the classes anywhere with internet access? If so the answer is yes at the following website. Schedule of Classes Home Page

Wait.. quick question: can I sign up for classes at home during orientation 101 (I have 103)..? Or do I have to wait for my orienation?!

No, registration doesn't open up until 9:00AM, 3rd day of orientation
