Laptop or, desktop?

This has probably been asked before... but... ima ask it again. What do you recommend for college? Obviously: desktop = more power/ price, less likely to get stolen or damaged. Laptop = more portability for taking to class/home. I don't know though, my brother says only about 5% of kids in his college classes have laptops in class, and I live about 10 miles away from my university anyways so portability isnt that much of a problem. I also like to occasionally load up a computer game, and a desktop would certainly be better for that.

Any thoughts?

Merci d'avance

Depends on your major, your classes, and overall what you want to do with your computers. I will say that I am a big fan of laptops, though. I just put one in my backpack and use it to take notes in my MATLAB class or to take advantage of the campus wi-fi during breaks. However, I am required to have a laptop to work in MATLAB and autoCAD, so I really had no choice. That is why I said it depends on what your classes require of you.

Also, if you just need your laptop for note-taking and internet access, consider getting a desktop as your main computer and buying a cheap subnotebook as your portable.

The nice thing about a laptop too, is that if you have group projects or things where you need to meet with a group for a class, and having a computer would be helpful and/or necessary for the group, you'll be able to bring your laptop. However, you don't really need a laptop with much power or fancy do-dads to do that, and you can always use a storage device to bring a long your files and whatnot.
