Laptop recommendations?

So my computer is old and crappy as hell, and I'm getting a laptop (I'm like the only one that doesn't have one).

I'm pretty sure most of you have one, so any good recommendations? I'm not leaning towards a specialized one (like hardcore gaming, business, or w/e), but more for general use. I'm still looking for one with a solid storage capacity (~300GB's at least, IMO), pretty good graphic card enough to run most games (except maybe the ultra 3D ones), obv. >2~3G ram, leaning towards Windows (XP/Vista probably, although doesn't matter too much), I don't care much about screen size, weight (portability), but I do need obviously decent to high speed, etc...

I'm not willing to spend too much, but good enough for the product's worth - not something entirely cheap. Finding that ideal balance is necessary, I guess.

So what do you people own? And (possible) recommendations/experiences?

I do not know much about laptops but do not get toshiba.

We use toshiba laptops for school, and they are no better than shxtz.

Yeah brand product to company to specifics are welcome. I mean I could easily research and I’m decently knowledgeable, but I still seek advance opinions and just to make sure.

Plus it’s a semi-discussion thread too.

Bumping.

Here’s another one: Vista or XP (which do you prefer)?

I have a Dell XPS M1330 w/ Vista. I personally don’t think too highly of it, but it acceses the internet and that’s all I care about. It’s still pricey too I think, so yeahh im pretty much not recommending it.

Don’t get a gateway either.

Why not Windows 7?

Get a mac (macbook pro). I bought one and never looked back. So clean looking and sexy. They also don’t get viruses so won’t slow down on you over time like PCs. The interface is a lot nicer too. If you’re on a budget, by one of the previous versions or two. You don’t need the latest one. Also, you could go refurbished.

I’m fine with this too, except I believe it’s still in beta and not many people currently use it. I’m thinking about it.

Windows 7 came out 3 months ago o.o

It was in beta for a year beforehand and worked well enough that they skipped a second beta stage before release. I have it and it’s nice.

Lol then I must’ve been missing something. Yeah one of my friends has 7 and he says it’s nice, so I might get that.
