Would it be a good idea to ship my laptop to my dorm? I've already ordered it from Apple and since I think it's custom it hasn't left China yet. Right now it is set to come to my house, but it definitely won't arrive before I move in. Currently, it would have to be driven over by my parents sometime during welcome week (I'd kinda prefer this doesn't happen.)

So yeah, should I change the shipping address to my dorm? Would it be safe there, and would there be any problems because it has to be signed for? Would the attendant there be able to do it? And are Macs easy to set up, even for those who have never set up a computer before?
Thanks!

I can’t help you but my laptop was stuck in customs in alaska. This is after it was delayed by hp. Ill hopefully get it right before i leave. I thought i was gonna b in the same situation you were.

Sorry for jacking this thread…but is it safe to order books to your dorm? Will they deliver it to your room, or at the front desk or something? I’m going to be living in markley

They will deliver it to the front desk, yosup. It is safe. You will get a slip in your mailbox telling you that you have a package, and you bring that slip and your Mcard to the front desk and they’ll take care of it.

fullofheart, have you already ordered it? If not, you know that the computing showcase has sweet deals on macs, right? Where you just go pick them up at the ITCS Showcase center? Mac online is not any cheaper, and for software, ITCS at Umich can’t be beat. Also, Showcase employees will help you get setup for a small fee if you like. Just so you know…

If you’ve already ordered it, I wouldn’t worry too much about shipping to your dorm. We never had any problems last year. They sign for the packages all the time.

Ah yeah I did know about the computer showcase but not any specifics. But my computer has already been shipped but it’s supposed to come the day of move-in so hopefully Fedex is speedy and doesn’t get to my house late!
