Hi,
I am going to Rutgers school of engineering in fall and i want to know if i should buy laptop or desktop. I would like to know that how often you need/ you are required to have laptops in class (I am not planning to take notes in laptop). If i go to library to study, i can use their computer so i dont think that i need laptop there. Thanks for any advice..

ooohhh! I’m thinking of applying for Rutgers next year! (I’m going to be a senior)
May I ask a personal question? What was your UW GPA, Class rank, SAT and other stuff? I’m a B+ student so I don’t know if I fit in…
PM me if you feel like. TY

GPA: 3.96
Rank: top 10%
SATs: 1880 (If you want to do engineering, make sure you get +700 in math)

crap! I’m doomed… All of your academics are better than mine except SAT. =(

If you don’t play any games a mid range laptop will be enough (unless you need a powerful computer for your major)
if you get a laptop its useful being able to take it places and the occasion will arise more than you think.
so a 15in laptop will be good, maybe get an external monitor/keyboard/mouse

or get a desktop and a cheap portable laptop, or a net book .
actually i would recommend this over just getting a laptop especially if you want to play games

The laptop is only as useful as you make it to be. If it only plays games, it only plays games. The laptop is only and extension of yourself, a tool you might say.

You seem unsure on whether or not you need it. If you really have no idea if you need one or not, try to save yourself some money and go to your first couple classes without buying one.

If you find that you’d rather type your papers in your dorm, by all means, go for a laptop. If you find that you’re good enough without one, you really are.

If you find that you want one, I would suggest browsing around dell, mac, hp, toshiba, acer, and any other manufacturer.

It’s a lot like buying a car. First you need to decide if it is appropriate to spend money for, then you need to decide what kind of car will suit your needs.

Good luck!
