Laptop

Hey there, plz give me advice if you know,

I need to buy a laptop for use in College. Maybe you can give me good advice.
A lot of people were convincing me to get a MAC, but for financial and other reasons I wanna stick with Windows.
I wanna waste around 1400 dollars on it. I would go from 1400 up to, lets say, 1600, only if it was really necessary and an excellent investment.
I was thinking bout getting a DELL or IBM from a college store, but lately a lot of people are tellin me the Sony VAIO laptops are the best fot the price range Im aiming for. So Im planning to get the VAIO FS or FE series (online).
Note: I DONT play games but I DO record music and edit music a lot.

Any thoughts? Thankx a lot

This forum is not the appropriate for that inquiry!

from what i have heard, sony vaio's are indeed the best. they are a bit pricier than how much laptops usually run for. but they are apparently worth it and are more technologically savvy. my next laptop purchase will be a sony vaio.
gateway's are really good too. i currently own a gateway, and it is great.
i know one thing: hp computers aren't good.
apple is very good as well, but you are not willing to venture into that territory :P

HP, I find is one of the best, I have a mac powerbook and a HP Pavilion. I am always using the HP because it is so much more practical. Mac has a hard time finding a wireless signal. My HP finds three wireless connections in my house as opposed to the mac that finds none. I have cd and dvd burner on my HP and I love te way it works, would not trade it for any mac. Mac is expensive and is always having problems just like the ipods.

I would advise you to get an HP or IBM laptop.
