Laptops for Art Students

In this upcoming Fall, I will be attending college as a freshman art major. I’m so confused as to what type of laptop I should buy. I am on a limited budget, and would like a laptop I can rely on. Any advice on what laptop to look into?

Does your school have laptop recommendations?
Some schools have specific laptop requirements and then provide tech support for that particular type.Check it out before buying anything on your own. Some art schools actually provide laptops. There are many student discounts also from most manufacturers. Having ready tech support is great.

My D just bought a Microsoft Surface Pro (I think a Pro…) recently. Absolutely loves it. She bought it specifically for art. Not sure which programs she had installed on it. Not the cheapest option but she’s working and can afford it (now).
She has also used a Mac for art when in college. But mostly paper, pencil and paint!

I looked into it a bit, and didn’t see any requirements, so I don’t believe they have one.

People in art and design tend to go for Macs, but it’s not a necessity (since you said you’re on a budget). You’ll probably have to use Adobe software (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) at some point, and that works on either Windows or Mac.

No, it totally i not a necessity - it is a plus and a nice goodie but anyways you can go for it also with an windows base laptop.
