Anyone have a good laptop that they'd recommend to an incoming GW student? Does anyone know about some good laptops out there? (Dell, Apple, HP, etc.) I'm looking to buy...

I think there have been a couple of posts in a previous thread on laptops, but it doesn't look like it's appearing any longer. I bought a desktop out of personal preference.

anyone else?

Our son got the Dell Inspirion e1505. I'm not a lover of Dell... I think they nickle & dime you on everything. And are kind of nasty when you call. However... and you'd want to look into this, when we called the GW Tech office, they said that the only 2 brands they service on-site were Dell & Apple. That kind of made the decision for him. The Inspirion is very lightweight. He got the 15.4" screen. Now, he also got a new desktop for video-editing. You can't edit big projects on a laptop, so he needed both. IT's a very powerful HP. I love HP/Compaq. We have them at home, and have had very few problems, and they are the nicest people when I call for tech-support. With HP/Compaq, you can do a low end basic machine, and it still has some bells & whistles, or a high-end powerful machine. Good luck.

Get dell, get the four year warranty.

get a MAC, they dont get viruses.. which is a problem on college networks.
