2) 1 GB DDR2 Ram
3) 15.4" WXGA LCD
4) 120 GB Hard Drive
5) DVD Super Multi Double Layer

Cost: $1150 heh i tink its a decent deal :) <= this includes taxes, shipping and handling.

Con: a bit heavy and not considered a "thin and light" laptop but im a strong guy so it wont be that big of a deal. i also dont plan on taking notes on this thing so its gud :) i might need this laptop in class for my computer/business classes though :( weight: 6.6 lbs.

I got a Dell B130 with a Pentium 3 processor, 1 GB memory, 15" screen, DVD/CD combo, etc, it was $450 w/taxes and shipping.

You aren't buying a printer though, right? I don't see the need for it really, you can just print to the one in your dorm.

wow nice deal a2wolves, naw i dont think i need a printer. who knows, sometimes you might go over your limit but we'll see.

My son bought the Dell Latitude 610 that was recommended by the college last year, and he bought it through the college, which was cheaper than buying it on his own, especially with the 3 year service contract. He did not get a printer. he does recommend having one of those little things (I forget the name) that you can plug into a USB port to save your data. Occasionally if the dorm printer is busy or not working, he just takes his data over to the library on the way to class and prints it there.

Susan, those are called jump drives or flash drives. I got one for my son, too. We use ours at home quite a bit.

Thanks, AimHigh. Sometimes words just skip right out of my head, even though I know them. rough to get old! :)

im young, im just 18 and i still didnt know what the little thing that saved data was :) a zip drive AAAAAAHA!

My son got an Alienware Sentia 3450. His specs are a lot like Dcho711's:

Intel® Core™ Duo T2300 1.66GHz 2MB Cache 667MHz FSB
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz
120GB SATA 1.5Gb/s 5,400 RPM w/ NCQ & 8MB Cache
24x CD-RW / 8X DVD Combo w/ Software MPEG2 Decoder
14.1" WideXGA 1280 x 768 LCD
3 high-speed USB 2.0 ports
two-speaker hi-def 7.0 audio
Internal Intel PRO Wireless 3945 a/b/g
Integrated Intel Media Accelerator 950 Graphics
4-in-1 card reader

plus laptop backpack/bag

The weight is 5.5 lbs., and it's 3/4th of an inch thick--so a true ultraportable.

I guess it's a bit high-end, but keep in mind I work in the computer hardware business.

P.S. Alienware got bought by Dell about 4 months ago. They are keeping it as their "gaming" computer line.
