my sister's laptop has gone down a couple of times. They gave her loaner, fixed it and returned it, with no payment. deductible may be for serious issues where they can't fix...or stolen .

I thought you were required to either bring or purchase a pc laptop. Can you use your Mac??

nice i got the full grant

Full grant!

yeahhh i got one too!

Full grant and I already ordered the laptop. Took maybe 10 minutes.

Also got a full grant. Looks like a new laptop for me :)

Another full laptop grant here. I'm pretty stoked. I've been thinking about upgrading, but the R61 is already a huge step up from my current desktop computer so I think I'll be perfectly content with it.

FYI

In the past the peripherals like the docking station, wireless keyboard, flat panel monitor and printer were all very good buys through the CCI program. I would advise checking them out if interested. Of all, the printer was probably the closest in price to buying it at a discount retail store. When we purchased the difference for the printer was really just the included connection cable and the convenience of picking it all up there and not having to ship/transport. The other items were really a good buy though.

Thanks for the advice eadad. You've been really helpful throughout this entire process!

Son will be a transfer student. He just called and says he can't find what programs come with the CCI laptops on the site anywhere. He's not real happy with the laptop selection as this is what he has at current school (they supply) and he hasn't liked it. But we are pushing him to take the CCI one due to support and warranty.

Anyway, anyone know a link to find the actual programs included? Does it include any "good" software? Does it include wireless specific to the U.?

this link should help you

^^Thanks, that's just what he needed I think. Sent the link on to him.

Does anyone know if the CCI laptops come with vista?

No, but you get a free update to vista when the approve it sometime in the fall.

I'm psyched.... just ordered my laptop a few days ago.... must be the fingerprint reader :)

I ordered mine a while ago. It looks like a nice laptop. Hoepfully we can get vista on it soon after school starts

okay ive heard from a lot of people that macs dont work well with unc software/network, but what about those students who major in visual communication/multimedia? does the department recommend them to use unc's laptops or macs, since macs are apparently better for media purposes?

and has anyone actually tried using boot camp to run windows on a mac? by using boot camp, does your laptop basically become a PC with a mac covering? im really confused lol

I got the one offered by the school, but then again I did get a full grant for it.

with boot camp windows becomes a separate partition on your mac hardware so for all intents and purposes it would be a windows laptop with some funky spunky hardware... i think. at any rate if you have the cash for a mac u might as well... u can always make friends with a computer science nerd if you are having some real issues.
