Laptops

I'm going to be an international business major this fall, so I was looking over the technology requirements today and had a question or two so maybe someone here can help, otherwise I'll just talk with Pepperdine...

How important is it to be running on XP Professional? I'm currently running my laptop on Media Center Edition, which isn't too different from Pro. It has some differences, but it is much more similar to Pro than Home. If I have to, I'll switch over to Professional, but if I do that, I'll lose some of the functionality of Media Center, so I just want to be positive I'll have to first.

Second, how does Pepperdine/Business Division feel about Vista? This goes back to how strict they are about XP Pro...would I be ok if I upgraded to Vista as opposed to changing to Pro?

Basically, I'd rather not switch over to Professional unless I really have to. Doing so wouldn't really benefit me at all, other than just meeting the requirements. I'd be much more willingly to upgrade to Vista if that's acceptable.

Thanks to anyone who can give any information.

a laptop is not necessary at Pepperdine at all. they have a surplus of computers

A laptop is a definite necessitiy at almost any college and is also true at Pepperdine! My D takes her laptop everywhere including her job on campus. You can connect wireless everywhere on campus, except the room direct connect. Last I checked their network did not support Vista, I think they are working on it. I am not familiar with Media Center.

What I can tell you is that if you contact any dept. at Pepperdine you will get great response and everyone is very helpful. Contact their tech dept and they will give you any info you ask. The only thing you will see is they pefer Dell, but all campuses have a vendor they "push" for various reasons.

You really don't need it unless business student. All depends really. You can go by without it, but it really helps for upper division class projects with groups.

I would reccomend it.

O yea, and you don't have to get a dell. I personally don't like Dells that much.
