I'm down to two options for college next year. UF is one of them, but I am a little concerned about the large class sizes and being "just a number." Does anyone have advice about the size of UF? Are most classes relatively large? Do most students have to take online classes? If I decide to go there but the large classes don't work out for me, can I switch to smaller ones? Any advice concerning the population or school as a whole would be greatly appreciated!

You can get just as much help in a large class just have to put in a little more effort outside of class. I have one huge class right now and the professor answers emails reasonably quickly and has office hours although I have not been. I prefer online classes if it’s going to be a large lecture anyway for the flexibility. Also the tutoring services Study Edge and Tutoring Zone help break down the big lecture classes into really simple terms and organize the material pretty well in their reviews.

i also think of online classes as advantageous. if you want the professor to know you’re name, you can stop by his office a few times.

being able to forward and rewind lectures is also high underrated by prospective students. either way, it shouldn’t be a decision factor because unless you’re a business major, you may only have to take 1 or 2 online classes if any.

generally, the whole “just a number” thing applies to people who have no intention of not being “just a number”. its easy to get involved and be someone on campus and in your classes. you just won’t be someone to everyone.
